I don't recall what I paid for mine 14 months ago here in Toronto. But given that the camera has since come down in price, and the Canadian dollar has gone up 20 cents against the US dollar, it'd take some pretty complicated calculations to make much use of the number if I looked it up.

$390 sounds like a great price to me.

I dare not say .. but I bought mine abt 3 month ago here in the Uk for £180 off ebay from a guy who had had it for 12 months and didn't know how to use it.

3 days later I sold my old camera (FZ8) for £95 - again on ebay - it was abt 9 months old and ended up with a guy in Poland!!

How is that for high powered international trading LOL

I bought my camera from B&H photo online for $450 back in august. I actually did alot of research for about 3 weeks and had to decide between the Fujifilm Finepix S9100 and the 50. well i bought both but after about 2 weeks the 50 was just so much better i sold the S9100 to a friend. the fit in my hands was a match and i was comfortable with it. Being 6' 7'' and 280lbs the weight of the camera is no problem lol.

I payed 479 Euros at ProMarkt. This wasn't a bad price.

The more recent owners will have got theirs for a lower price, as the trend seems to be for the price of a camera to come down as the model gets older. When I bought mine just over a year ago I used one of the price comparison sites - I think it was Pricerunner, to compare sellers' prices. I got mine from UK Digital Cameras. They were the second cheapest, but seemed to have a better track record than the cheapest. They also offered a good package which included 2 gb high speed SD card, extra year warranty and a case for just over £400. I think the camera itself was about £360. When I last looked at their site it was considerably less.

Well, Raven, have you made your choice yet?

Don't forget, if you're waiting for the price to come down, just think of the photos you'll miss while you're waiting.
The FZ50's been around now for about 18 months, and over that time the price has come down quite a lot, but I believe it's evened off quite a bit now. I would think the only way you'll get a new one much cheaper is if a retailer is caught with a lot of stock when Panasonic release their direct upgrade to replace the FZ50. I'm surprised that the haven't already, but maybe that's because the FZ50 is so good they're finding it a hard act to follow!

@Artistic Photographer: A great idea Mike, and I bet they're working towards it, but I would think big advances need to be made in sensor technology, which probably will be achievable, and lens technology which is probably much less possible. At the moment, to achieve a big zoom, the sensor has to be small, or the zoom lens has to be the size of a cannon and I don't mean the brand of camera! Hence the FZ18 having a smaller sensor than the FZ50.
As for the LCD, when I got my FZ50 I was disappointed that the screen didn't flip out to the side, but now I'm glad it flips down; the only use for a sideways flip screen would be for self portraits, but it would be much less useful for holding the camera at waist level. Now a screen on a flexible extentable neck would be really something...

Well, the side flip out screen that Caon S2IS/S3IS/S5IS have is helpful in taking the shots by holding the camera at waist level as well. A friend of mine has S3IS & I do remember its screen able to rotate just like FZ50's does. FZ50's screen rotates left to right while that S3IS's screen was rotating top to bottom! :)

I had a Canon S2 before I got the FZ50. I prefer the screen flipping out to the bottom rather than to the side. Maybe it's just me, but I found the flip out to the side a bit disorientating. If it was at an angle to the camera, I ended up with photos that were not completely level. This seems less of a problem with the FZ50.

The other advantage to the FZ50, is if the screen is flipped around, so that it's like a fixed screen, to take over head shots you simply tilt the screen down. With side mounted screens, you need to completely re-orientate the screen (flip out to the side and flip around 180 degrees) to do the same.

I got mine when the FZ50 1st came out (1 month after). I had an FZ3 that needed replacing. I paid about $900, but that was with extra battery, 2GB SD card, and a few other things in a package deal. I still think it was well worth the cost. Love this camera.
